I want to congratulate all that recently got their results and graduated this summer, especially to the students we met on our visit to The University of Brighton. Also I want to wish new students starting university the very best.
If you haven’t already decided what you want to do, I’m here to say that it’s okay. I remember when I graduated back in 2015, I had no idea what I wanted to do as I had a degree in Accounting and Finance but at that particular time becoming an Accountant was not entirely as appealing. I didn’t get into accounting until January 2016. So that was approximately 7 months after I graduated.
Back then I put myself underneath a lot of unnecessary pressure on myself and when I look back I really do wonder why I did that. I do wonder maybe it was my environment as I was around people who actually mapped out what they wanted to do and I thought I was falling behind. However I’m here to tell you that you’re not falling behind at all.
As I’ve previously mentioned everyone’s journey and lives in general are different. So you may not know what you want to do now as a recent graduate however that’s ok. Just make sure you do something that’s worthwhile in the sense that you’re happy.
I like being an accountant because I enjoy helping people whether that’s financially or anyway. Plus it’s a stable career with great prospects outside finance. When you understand the finances of a business the commercial awareness will follow.
